Is your cat fond of getting wet? Statistically, most likely not! Even if they don’t want to play in it, most cats are fascinated by running water – but some cats not only tolerate but enjoy getting wet. We have the videos to prove it.
Cats Like Water
According to The Cat Fancier’s Association, many cat breeds enjoy getting wet to varying degrees. Maine Coon, Turkish Angora, Japanese Bobtail, American Bobtail, Manx, Norwegian Forest Cat, American Shorthair, Turkish Van, and Bengal cats are among them. She appears to be having a good time in the sink, which must make it difficult for her owner to do the dishes.
They can’t get enough of the sloshy, wet stuff. Look at them standing in the partially filled tub, pawing at the water, splashing around, even casually shaking it off their heads like dogs – but never leaving!
Why Some Cats Love to Get Wet
To escape the extreme heat of hotter climates, many big cats in the wild will swim or bathe in rivers or lakes. Domestic cats may prefer warmer room temperatures and sitting or lying in sunbeams on floors and window sills for this reason.
Because domestic cats were largely shielded from the elements during their breeding, many do not enjoy getting wet – it’s simply not something they have experienced on a regular basis. Domestic cats are fully capable of cleaning themselves with their tongues, so it’s not surprising that many cats prefer to avoid getting sprayed with water bottles or being forced to take a bath.
