Siberian Breed History
One of Russia’s biggest cultural icons, the Siberian cat is mentioned in both traditional fairy tales and children’s literature. Since the breed was not widely sold outside of Russia until the end of the Cold War, the first Siberians did not arrive in the United States until 1990. The Cat Fancier’s Association permitted the Siberian cat to be registered in 2000, and in 2006 it was accorded championship status.

Detailed Description
The Siberian cat is a medium to large, exceptionally well-balanced cat with a rounded appearance and few angles. These cats’ beautiful, open appearance and powerful, alert behavior are a result of their eyes, which range in hue from brilliant green to gold. Blue eyes and two pairs of eyes each of a different color are possible results. Instead of wider ears, the Siberian has sharp ears and a dense coat. The inside of the ears are heavily hairy to further protect against cold conditions. These cats require up to five years to reach their full developmental potential.

The Siberian’s coat comes in a wide variety of hues and patterns, both with and without white markings.
Grooming requirements
The coat of the Siberian is an obvious reflection of its home nation. There are three waterproof and thick layers. The tail is frequently held high, the britches are wide and fluffy, and the neck is ruffled. Thankfully, the coat does not degenerate as quickly as may be expected and can be preserved in good condition by routine cleaning and combing. Another characteristic of this breed is that they like being near water.
If you put a Siberian on a routine while they’re young, they won’t whine about taking baths. Though there is no guarantee of this because Siberian cats have less Fel d1 in their saliva, the cause of many cat allergies, it is interesting that some people think Siberian cats are slightly hypoallergenic.
